The Creuse, a surprising destination!

The Creuse, is above all a state of mind: that of having the liberty to take one’s time and appreciate the tranquillity that characterises it. There are no traffic jams here, or car horns or pollution, only clean air, serenity while driving and the pleasure of passing through a diverse range of landscapes.
One can’t talk about the Creuse without mentioning Vassivière Lake. 1000 ha of water that lies in the heart of an unspoilt territory and provides a base for a multitude of aquatic activities and recreation sports. Here is the Gateway to the Millevaches Plateau where walkers, mountain bikers, horse riders, etc. will be enchanted by the trails.
Also discover in the north, the Monts de Guéret territory and its Chabrières Forest. Here, nature is a natural playground for outdoor-sport addicts and thrill lovers: mountain biking, trail, paragliding, hang gliding, climbing, swimming etc…
Continue on to the only Nature Reserve in the Limousin, Landes Lake. Covering a 100 ha, it shelters no less than 400 plant species and 600 animal species. Come and study the flora and fauna using the observatories set up all around the lake.
With its beautiful small villages, the Creuse stands out: Chambon-sur-Voueize was voted the 3rd ‘French Favourite Village’ in 2014 and Bénévent l’Abbaye has been recognised as a ‘Little Town of Character’.
A land of inspiration for artists: dive into the history of the Creuse Valley Impressionist Painters where, amongst the most well known, Claude Monet and Armand Guillaumin set up their easels. Or visit Boussac Château, the writer George Sand’s favourite residence and don’t forget Aubusson Tapestry, a know-how listed as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
No one lies when they say that the Creuse is beautiful.
